PHP is one of the webs best kept secrets, my people know about the existance of php, few exploit it. The book starts at the beginning and mosts through to advanced topics. Php is a programming language for the web.

Php is embedded in HTML which is the way information is diplayed. Php being an interpreted language will only work on a webserver runnig php. You'll start reading this book and want to play, it does get addictive. There are whole php suites freely availalbe to download and use for many web applicationareas like discussion boards, contenet management systems etc.

Php can handle graphics and data interaction. The book is well worth a read and will like many of the other O'reilly titles become a desktop companion.
