Title: Essential SNMP Author: D.R. Mauro & K.J. Schmidt Publisher: O’Reilly ISBN: 0-596-00020-0 Price: £ 28.50
SMNP (Simple Network Management Protocol), is the language used to record transmit and analyse network connected device information, including routers, switches, printers and servers. Many network management system (NMS) packages use SNMP, a good way to get to grips with the protocol is to use native tools built into Unix and Linux. Understanding the protocol at this low level will complement the NMS packages or give you the ability to undertake management functions without them. An interesting book, clearly illustrated with lots of examples.
